Hi! Now that you're a published Author, does the feeling live up to what you expected?
about an hour ago ·  ·
    • Mj Hearle Well I expected to be the next JK Rowling so unfortunately...no :)
    • Mj Hearle Just kidding - it's great having my book out in the world
      about an hour ago ·
    • Mj Hearle It's still strange seeing it in bookstores. It's almost as though someone else wrote it - who is this MJ character?

    • Melissa Freeman And it's an awesome book too ;)
    • Fictional Fantasy Yep I have to agree their Melissa :)
    • Mj Hearle Why thank you - glad you liked it :)

How many books do you plan to write about Winter?
about an hour ago ·  ·
    • Mj Hearle There will definitely be a third one (an epic tale set almost entirely in The Dead Lands!) but further than that I'm not sure? I'll let the story dictate how long it will run.

    • Melissa Freeman So are you more a pantser than a plotter when it comes to writing?
    • Mj Hearle Definitely a pantser, though I always try and be a plotter. Many a time I sat down with a bunch of cards with the intention to outline the novel only to get bored and just start writing without a clear plan. I'm impatient and lazy - a lethal combination.

    • Melissa Freeman Yeah but makes for a good story too because you are also surprised with where the story is going too ;)
    • Mj Hearle I think that's the trick. Outlining is great and all but sometimes it hems the story in and you miss out on exploring some exciting directions.

    • Melissa Freeman I'm doing the Camp NaNoWriMo at the moment and am doing the 'work it out as I go' writing and the only downfall is when you paint yourself into a corner and have no idea how to get out of it without deleting a few hundred words lol.
    • Mj Hearle Ah...but that's all part of the process. I got 40,000 words in and had to delete them all when I was writing the first draft of Winter's Shadow. Sometimes that's the way it goes....

    • Melissa Freeman Wow that's alot of words to take out lol. Was it your choice or the Editors to do that?
    • Mj Hearle My choice. I painted myself into a corner and the only way out was pushing that big old 'delete' button.

Will there be even more cats in Winter's Light? I especially loved the line 'Wielding her furry guardian like a weapon..' that cracks me up every time I read it.
about an hour ago ·  ·

    • Mj Hearle Oh most definitely there will be more cats. Cats a plenty. It delights me how many people responded to the character of Nefertem. Who would have thought a fat tabby would become one of the most popular characters in the book?

    • Mj Hearle Interestingly, I'm actually more a dog person than a cat person so there you go. I find cats a little spooky, a little otherworldly, which is why I guess, they lend themselves so well to supernatural fiction.

    • Melissa Freeman I'm mostly a dog person lol but loved the cats in Winter's Shadow. It was definitely kinda funny especially when Winter's sister has to deal with a whole.. pride of them. (Oh.. I think it's pride for a group of cats.. cluster?? yeah no idea lol)

    • Mj Hearle ‎'Clowder' is the word you're looking for:) I had to google it.

    • Melissa Freeman lol cool. I thought Pride sounded too tough for house cats and cluster sounds like a breakfast cereal lol
      57 minutes ago ·  ·  1 person

    • Mj Hearle Yeah 'clowder's' a funny word. Certainly not spooky.

    • Melissa Freeman lol I agree.
